Tunnel Records variant of the new record from our pal Sonny Smith with his new band, Sonny and His Cosmoramic Sunsets titled ‘The Diving Kind' on Rocks in Your Head Records.
Sonny first told me about this project some time ago, and played me little snippets along the way. The more I heard the more intrigued I became. Months past and my attention moved on to other things… than out of the blue he presented me with the completed record. First listen just blew me away, so much so I convinced him to let me have a little part in creating the physical record.
It’s really one of the best examples of different musical cultures and languages coming together to make something totally new and unique. There are sounds I’ve never heard and grooves familiar but different. The record takes you away to another place unlike any you’ve been from a vantage point of familiarity. Open ears and open minds.
In Sonny’s words “I travelled to Senegal last year with a few pals and we made recordings with several truly creative music wizards, who i am excited to share are now my musical brothers. It was a mind melting experience! Just processing the new sonic information every single day made me pass out around 9pm every night. we recorded for six days. I brought all the music home to my studio and proceeded to make all kinds of weird creative shit! And out of all this mystical confusion emerged this new record.”
